The knife Angel will be on display for the first time in Newton Aycliffe this week.

It will be in the home town of 18-year-old Jack Woodley who was stabbed to death while heading home from a fun fair in October 2021.

The sculpture, which is made out of 100,000 seized blades and weighing in at 3.5 tonnes, aims to highlight the impact of knife crime.

Zoe McGill, who is Jack's mum and helped bring the sculpture to the region, said: "A lot of people have worked really hard to get it here in memory of our Jack and all the others that have been taken in the surrounding areas to knife crime.

"I think it's very educational to kids and it just puts the message out there that it's not OK to carry a knife.

"People who are using knives and end up taking someone’s life, their lives are gone as well.

"There are no winners."

She continued to say: "Children getting life sentences. Loved ones never being able to see their children again.

"It needs to stop, and we need to educate our young people before it becomes that someone else has lost their life because once that happens, there's no fixing it.

"There's nothing you can do that will ever fix what they did to Jack."
