Man dies after Hartlepool Bank Holiday assault

A man's died after a suspected assault in Hartlepool - which is thought to have happened in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday

A 32-year-old man has appeared before Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning, charged with murder and attempted grievous bodily harm (attempted section 18 assault)

It's after two men were reportedly assaulted in Church Street in Hartlepool at 3am on Monday 25 May.

The 50-year-old man had suffered a serious head injury and passed away yesterday evening.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Matt Hollingsworth said: "Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time."

The other man, aged 49, was treated in hospital and later discharged.
