Fire crews tackling blaze in Stockton bring fire under control
A fire in Stockton, which led to nearby homes and businesses being evacuated earlier, has now been brought under control, according to Cleveland Fire Bridgade.
A fire in Stockton, which led to nearby homes and businesses being evacuated earlier, has now been brought under control, according to Cleveland Fire Bridgade.
The fire service were called at 07:47am this morning to a fire at Galaxy Blinds on Yarm Lane, Stockton (opposite Aldi).
Seven appliances were in attendance, one from Middlesbrough, two from Stockton, two from Thornaby, one from Hartlepool and one from Saltburn, alongside the incident command unit.
Stockton Council say a rest centre has been set up at Splash Leisure centre, and anyone affected should head there for support.
Earlier we were told that due to the fire it wasn't yet safe for people to return to their properties.
Now, Cleveland Fire Brigade say they are scaling back their attendance at the site, as the fire has been brought under control but crews and partner organisations will remain there for a while.
Local roads and paths are still closed for now, with the public asked to avoid the area if possible.
