Police have launched an investigation after one man was stabbed and another had an unknown substance thrown in his face.

Police have launched an investigation after one man was stabbed and another had an unknown substance thrown in his face.

Durham Police said the men were attacked in Ferryhill, County Durham, at 10.30am on Wednesday.

The force said both men remained in hospital for treatment.

A man aged 49 suffered eye injuries when the substance was thrown in his face before a man aged 44 was stabbed.

Parker Terrace in the town centre was cordoned off while forensic experts carried out inquiries.

According to reports, two air ambulances attended the scene.

A force spokesman said: "Officers are confident that this was a targeted, isolated attack between individuals who are all known to each other and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public."
