A big clean up is taking place this weekend at a Teesside beauty spot that has had numerous deliberate fires.

Cleveland Fire Brigade say they are having to regularly attend call-outs to Eston Hills due to arson attacks.

Now, the community is being asked to join in litter picking the area tomorrow.

The meeting point will be at the NHS centre at 10am with a return time of 1pm. Parking is at Flatts Lane Visitors Centre Car Park.

Rita Richardson is one of the organisers and said: "We started doing this because it was taking away the fuel and it's become very successful. We leave the litter pickers and people who come they end up taking the litter pickers and they go up the hills from May onwards doing this themselves.

"I remember the first Eston Hills clean up we did and I'd been there from 8.30am with my colleagues from Cleveland Fire Brigade and my friends from the Friends of Eston Hills. We were waiting thinking 'is anybody going to turn up?' and oh my goodness to see the community come together, to come and help us clean our hills, it was unbelievable.

"It was a gorgeous sunny day, there were children, we had footballs out and it was just amazing. I was so proud to be part of the Friends of Eston Hills and Cleveland Fire Brigade and so proud to be part of our community there.

"Just come and join us. You'll have a great time. I've met so many people through litter picking and cleaning those hills that they're now my friends. It's a great social activity. It gives you pride in the area. Come and join us. Just come, get a bag for rubbish, have a chat and have a cuppa."
