A serving Durham Constabulary officer has appeared at court charged with attempted sexual communication with a child and misconduct in a public office.

31 year-old Haydyn Brunsdon, who is of police constable rank, was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning (25th September) and was immediately suspended from duty.

He was charged with two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child, and an additional charge of misconduct in a public office.

Brunsdon appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning where he did not enter any pleas.

He was released on bail to appear at Durham Crown Court later this month.

He remains suspended from duty while a criminal investigation is carried out by the force’s Professional Standards Department.
