A County Durham farmer's urging people to recycle their real Christmas trees after the festive season.

He says it's important to make sure each tree is recycled and reused safely.

Richard Laing, a farmer at East Grange Farm in Durham, said: "Some people lift it out of the stand, put it in an old duvet cover, lift the duvet up around the tree, take it out that way and then it saves you a lot of hoovering and tidying up after yourself.

"We team up with St. Cuthbert's Hospice so you can go onto their website and you can book a slot to collect your christmas tree. I know that a lot of other hospices in the area do the same.

"I think there's a suggest donation of £12-£15, they'll give you a time and a date, you put your tree outside, they'll collect it and recycle it."
