A man from Stockton-on-Tees has been banned from driving after being caught speeding at 107 miles per hour with a provisional licence.

Darren Harris, 33 and of Clarendon Road in Thornaby, committed multiple offences in a short space of time last year across North Yorkshire.

He has was disqualified for two years, and fined more than £1,000, at Harrogate Magistrates' Court on 3 March.

He was found guilty in his absence of three counts of high-speed driving on 13 January, having failed to appear at the same court for an earlier hearing.

Harris did not respond to papers posted to him regarding his speeding offences.

On the final occasion, on 9 October 2025, he was caught driving at 107 miles an hour in a 70 zone, and was stopped soon after by police.

He only held a provisional licence, had no learner plates on the car, and was on his own.

Richard Fletcher, from North Yorkshire Police's roads unit, said:

"Harris showed a total disregard for the safety of himself and other road users by regularly driving at excess speed.

"These actions were further exacerbated by the fact that Harris did not have the appropriate permissions on his licence to drive unsupervised.

"This is a prime example of how joint working between departments can ensure that repeat offenders are robustly dealt with.

"North Yorkshire Police are committed to making the roads of North Yorkshire safer, and taking drivers like Harris off our roads is one way of achieving this."
