Dael Fry has joined Birmingham City on a three-year deal following the expiry of his contract at Middlesbrough.

The 28-year-old defender’s Boro contract ran out at the end of June, ending a 21-year association with his boyhood club.

Fry made his senior debut for the Teessiders on the opening day of the 2015-16 campaign and recorded 296 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Last season Fry was Boro’s captain as they finished fifth in the Sky Bet Championship and led the team in May’s play-off final, which they lost to Hull.

A post on Boro’s official X account read: “Everyone at MFC thanks Dael for his long service and wishes him all the very best for the future.”

Dael's new club have welcomed him to the West Midlands.

A Birmingham City spokesperson added:

"Bringing leadership, experience and consistency to Chris Davies' squad, Fry further strengthens Blues' defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

"He will now link up with his new team-mates ahead of the Men's First Team's pre-season training camp in Portugal."
