People in Teesside are being urged to anonymously speak up about illegal weapons and firearms to help stop serious violence in communities.

Crimestoppers say more than 3,500 calls were made to them last year from Cleveland.

The independent charity, which is completely separate from the police, says every report made to them can help prevent injuries and loss of life. If you know about illegal guns, knives or violence, tell Crimestoppers what you know, safely and anonymously.

Any piece of information passed to the charity 100% anonymously could help to prevent genuine harm and injury. Things to tell Crimestoppers include:

• Who is supplying or selling guns and weapons

• How and by who are moved or hidden

• Where firearms or knives are being stored

• People known to carry a knife or gun

• Those involved in shootings or stabbings

• How weapons are disposed of after use

• Any plans or talk of violent attacks

Fleur Brown, North East Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “We’re asking people across Cleveland to speak up if they know someone who carries or hides a weapon. By telling Crimestoppers what you know, you can help stop future tragedies. You’ll remain completely anonymous – always. We’ll never ask for your name, record or trace your device.

"We understand it’s not easy to speak up, especially if it involves someone you know. But your information could save a life, prevent injury and bring justice to victims. Only you will ever know you contacted Crimestoppers.

"No-one will ever know you contacted Crimestoppers. With Fearless.org and Crimestoppers-uk.org, computer IP addresses are never traced. For telephone calls to the independent charity’s UK Contact Centre, there is no caller line display and no 1471 facility. You will stay 100% anonymous. Always."
