Singer-songwriter Ste Johnson is ready to take 2025 by storm with the release of his emotionally charged and sonically rich new EP ‘Better Days’, out now via all major digital platforms. The release comes just ahead of a major hometown headline show at Newcastle’s iconic Cluny venue on August 8, and a full-band festival appearance at Hardwick Festival next month alongside the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Scissor Sisters.

FROM COUNTY DURHAM TO THE WORLD STAGE

Hailing from County Durham, Ste Johnson is no newcomer to the world of live music. A seasoned performer with years of international gigs under his belt, Ste’s journey is far from typical. A former RAF serviceman, his time in the Armed Forces has shaped not only his worldview but also his deeply human songwriting. His lyrics carry the weight of lived experience, underscored by a warm, melodic sound that bridges the gap between 90s Britpop and American storytelling in the vein of Dylan and Petty.

Since releasing his debut single By My Side in 2023 - featured by the BBC on their Strictly Come Dancing coverage - Ste has rapidly built a reputation for emotionally intelligent songwriting and soaring, powerful vocals.

“It’s been an incredible year already,” says Ste. “From releasing new music to connecting with audiences across the country, I feel like things are finally lining up in a really exciting way. Music is about people - whether I’m playing to troops overseas, a club full of dancing couples, or a packed festival crowd, I just want people to feel something real. I can’t wait to get on stage at The Cluny and Hardwick Festival this summer - it’s going to be something really special.”

THE EP: STORIES FROM REAL LIFE

Recorded with acclaimed Cyprus-based producer Drew Thane, Better Days is a five-track journey through nostalgia, love, resilience, and community. The title track opens with a wistful reflection on youth and simpler times, capturing the universal longing for the innocence of the past. It asks whether those moments were truly easier or if that’s just how we choose to remember them.

Tears of A Clown brings a tender, introspective tone, exploring how people evolve over time - even if the world still sees them as who they once were. With The Morning Sun, Ste delivers an emotional lifeline to anyone struggling, inspired by a close friend’s hardship and reminding listeners that talking, and being heard, is a vital part of healing.

The powerful Go Build A House was born from Ste’s time volunteering at Newcastle’s Crisis Homeless Shelter. The song is shaped by real conversations, offering a moving and honest portrayal of hope, hardship, and humanity. Rounding out the EP is Little Angel - a celebratory, rock-and-roll-infused track inspired by Ste’s mum and the joy she shares with fellow dancers at her local working men’s club. It’s a toe-tapper that connects generations through music and joy.

LIVE SHOWS: INTIMATE AND RAW

On August 8, Ste headlines The Cluny in Newcastle - a homecoming moment for an artist who has performed around the world, but whose roots run deep in the North East. The show promises an intimate atmosphere, with fans getting the chance to hear the EP live in full, backed by Ste’s full six-piece band.

He’ll also bring the same band to Hardwick Festival, performing on the Treehouse Arena Stage on Saturday 16th August, where he’ll take the stage alongside international icons - proof of just how far this homegrown talent has come.

With support slots for Jeff Beck, Joss Stone, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor under his belt, and TV/radio appearances on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show and more, Ste Johnson’s momentum is unmistakable.
