A police officer from Norton's appeared in court - charged with child sex offences.

PC Nathan Henderson, 30, who has been suspended by Cleveland Police, appeared briefly at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court in County Durham on Wednesday.

He faces 11 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and one count of perverting the course of justice.

District Judge Marie Mallon remanded Henderson, of Beaconsfield Road, Norton, Teesside, in custody to appear at Durham Crown Court on August 28.

No pleas were entered and there was no application for bail.

The bearded officer, who wore a grey sweatshirt and black trousers, used a walking stick to enter the dock.

Cleveland Police said the officer was arrested and suspended on Monday.
