Brotton property closure amid reports of drug activity and anti-social behaviour
Redcar and Cleveland council are urging residents experiencing anti-social behaviour issues in the community to report them
Redcar and Cleveland council are urging residents experiencing anti-social behaviour issues in the community to report them.
It's as one property in Brotton was closed down just before Christmas - after repeated reports of drug activity and problems.
On Tuesday 23rd December, Redcar & Cleveland Neighbourhood Team officers and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council Antisocial Behaviour Team applied at Teesside Magistrates Court for the closure of the property on Jackson Street.
The tennant, who had been causing issues for local residents, has now been ordered to leave the property for three months as a result of the order.
PC Leon Webster, from Cleveland Police, said:
“Cleveland Police will always take community matters and incidents concerning antisocial behaviour and drug misuse seriously.
“It is unacceptable that there are some people in our communities causing misery for others. Closure orders such as this one cannot be achieved without the help of the public and their continued reporting of issues.
"Neighbourhood Policing Team officers encourage anyone who is suffering from similar issues to report them, to enable us to take action.”
Cllr Adam Brook, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said:
“The decision to go to court, either by the police as in this case or ourselves at the council, is never taken lightly.
"It only ever follows a lot of hard work including trying to improve the situation.
"However, I know the police will not hesitate to do what it takes to protect law-abiding citizens who ask only to live without fear in their own community.
"I’d like to thank the police for their work and for taking this action.
"I’d also like to thank our own officers for their supporting role and, as always, the decent residents of the area who may now be able to go about their lives in peace.”
