Last week saw the funeral of PC Tom Clough, at Kirkleatham Walled Gardens, which was attended by members of the armed forces, and representatives from police forces across the country.

Today, his family have shared this statement;

“We would like to thank the people of Redcar, Cleveland and beyond for showing their support on the day of Tom’s funeral, Thursday 10th September 2026.

“To have our community support us in such a way meant the world to the family and we will never forget it.

“Tom would have been amazed and so grateful.

“Thank you to those of you who lined the route from the funeral home to Kirkleatham Walled Garden, clapping as he passed and paying your respects.

“Thank you to those of you whose journey was interrupted and yet got out and stood by your cars with dignity and heads bowed.

“Thank you to our neighbours who have provided so much support in the past days and weeks.

“Thank you to the representatives from the Army, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, British Transport Police, Cleveland Police, wider police family, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance and NHS services.

“And finally, thank you to Redcar and Cleveland Council and the team at the Walled Gardens.

“To each and every one of you we are immensely grateful. Your support, love and warmth has helped our family navigate the loss of Tom, to celebrate his life and the legacy he will leave across our communities.

“Thank you.”

38 year old, PC Clough served in the Royal Logistic Corps then joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, British Transport Police and finally Cleveland Police, where he was an armed response officer.

Former comrades and colleagues from across his career were at the service.

PC Clough was killed alongside PC Matthew Blades in the early hours of August 22.

Last week also saw the funeral, on Wednesday 9th of September, of PC Matthew Blades in Hartlepool.

Five young men in a VW Passat which had been involved in a police pursuit before the collision were also killed.
