A woman has been arrested after a baby died on Teesside

Police in Thornaby say the death of a baby on Tuesday morning is being treated as unexplained.

Officers received a call from the North East Ambulance Service regarding concerns for the welfare of a baby on Thornaby Road in the early hours of Tuesday 16th September.

The baby was taken to hospital but sadly passed away.

Detectives say enquiries are currently ongoing and this is not being linked to any other incidents on Teesside this week.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and she was bailed with conditions pending further enquiries
