The police watchdog will investigate a fatal crash on the M90, which saw two drivers die after a head on collision while one car was travelling the wrong direction.

A grey Ford Kuga, reported to have been involved in a police pursuit prior to the accident, was seen driving northbound on the southbound carriageway near Junction 7 at Milnathort.

At around 10.30pm on Friday 17 April the Kuga crashed into a Vauxhall Corsa.

Both the 44 year old male driver of the Kuga and the 20 year old male driver of the Corsa sustained fatal injuries, and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their families have been informed.

Police Scotland statement

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A referral of the circumstances of the incident has been submitted by Police Scotland’s Professional Standards Department to the Police Investigation & Review Commissioner for consideration.”

The M90 southbound was closed for around 16 hours while investigations took place.

The northbound carriage was also closed for a time during the night.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage to contact 101 as soon as possible.
