A body has been found in the search for a missing man from Arbroath.

It was discovered in the Carmyllie area around 10.05am today.

Formal identification's still to take place but the family of 87-year-old Alexander Beattie, who was last seen on Sunday, has been informed.

Police don't think there are any suspicious circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ā€œAround 10.05am on Monday, 23 December, the body of a man was found in the Carmyllie area.

ā€œFormal identification has yet to take place but the family of Alexander Beattie, 87, reported missing from Arbroath on Sunday, 22 December, have been made aware.

ā€œThere are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.ā€
