Wiltshire Police says it "fully accepts" the need to improve its investigations into Serious and Organised Crime (SOC).

An inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS), graded the Force as "requires improvement" after a visit last August.

The report said the Constabulary doesn't understand all the serious and organised crime threats it faces and that it needed to make gains in how it gathers and evaluates intelligence.

The Force was also advised to review how it resources investigations.

Assistant Chief Constable Liz Coles said: “We welcome the independent scrutiny and assessment that HMICFRS provide and look forward to continuing this constructive engagement moving forwards.

“The report also identified many areas of good work and the areas for improvement were fully accepted.

“In the 10 months since the inspection, we have embraced their recommendation as part of an ongoing improvement programme and have already implemented several changes in line with recommendations.

“These include making full use of the specialist training that SWROCU provides.

Improving our management of Serious Crime Prevention Orders and improving the quality and consistency of our Prepare, Protect, Prevent and Pursue framework in tackling organised criminality.”

While the Force in Wiltshire was told to improve, the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) was graded as adequate.
