Nineteen mobile homes tailored for older individuals looking to downsize will be established in north Wiltshire, after planners granted approval for the project near MOD Lyneham.

Set on a 1.6-acre parcel adjacent to a massive solar farm, the development will also feature a village shop and café to serve residents.

Wiltshire Council planning officers advocate the scheme as a means to alleviate housing supply pressure by facilitating downsizing opportunities for seniors.

Town planners urged councillors to approve the proposal during Wiltshire Council’s northern area planning committee meeting.

The new mobile home park joins existing locations such as Bungalow Park, Church Park in Bradenstoke, and Lillybrook and Maguire’s Park Homes in Lyneham.

Initial plans for 50 mobile homes were reduced following public consultation, acknowledging community input.

A 50 square metre shop and site office will complement the residential plots, each offering individual parking spaces alongside 10 designated visitor spots.

Located opposite a bus stop, the site ensures connections to Lyneham, Royal Wootton Bassett, and Swindon.

Despite the project's advantages, Lyneham & Bradenstoke Parish Council voiced objections concerning the village character, infrastructure inadequacies, transport links, service strain, and traffic challenges.

Furthermore, 65 residents submitted objections, reflecting concerns surrounding the local impact.

The development represents an innovative approach to accommodate the needs of older residents while balancing community considerations and amenities.
