Wiltshire Local Plan consultation offers chance to shape county's future
Public invited to share views on homes, jobs, and infrastructure
In the coming month, Wiltshire Council will commence its first consultation for the new Wiltshire Local Plan, inviting residents, businesses, and stakeholders to influence the county's future development.
The Local Plan aims to strategically distribute homes, jobs, and infrastructure across Wiltshire, aligning with government policies that mandate around 3,500 new homes per year.
The initial public engagement phase, known as the scoping consultation, will run from 2nd to 30th September.
This period seeks input on potential plan content and preferred methods of public involvement.
A range of public engagement events are scheduled, allowing attendees to learn more and share their insights.
These include sessions at Chippenham Market, Salisbury Market, Royal Wootton Bassett Library, Devizes Market, and Trowbridge, The Shires.
Additionally, a public webinar will be held on 17th September.
Further information about these events will be provided by the council prior to the consultation's start.
Councillor Ian Thorn, Leader of Wiltshire Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, emphasized the importance of the Local Plan.
He stated, "The Wiltshire Local Plan will play a vital role in shaping the future of our county, helping us plan for new homes, jobs, and infrastructure while protecting and enhancing the things that make Wiltshire a special place to live and work."
Thorn underscored the significance of community involvement, framing change as an opportunity for investment and development.
The Local Plan process officially begins on 30th October, initiating a 30-month timeline for completion as set by government guidelines.
