Wiltshire's hospitals tell us there are no plans to boost security following an NHS worker being attacked on Sunday (12th January).

Salisbury District, Great Western and Bath's Royal United Hospital have each issued a statement following the incident at Royal Oldham Hospital.

A nurse suffered 'life-changing' injuries after being stabbed - a man has since been charged with attempted murder.

All three hospitals say they have 24 hour security on site and take a zero-tolerance policy to abuse of staff, patients and visitors.

A spokesperson for Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said: “The Trust takes the safety of our staff, patients and visitors extremely seriously. We regularly assess the risk based on intelligence and any local threats. We have trained security staff on site 24hours a day who are able to quickly respond to any concerns and the hospital is monitored by CCTV. We operate a zero-tolerance policy towards anyone verbally of physically assaulting our staff.”

A spokesperson for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “The Trust takes the safety of staff, patients and visitors extremely seriously and continues to work in partnership with the police and our own security team.

“Security are physically based near to the Emergency Department and support the site 24 hours a day, responding promptly to any concerns about behaviour.

“We also have a robust ‘Never OK’ policy in place across the organisation, to support staff, patients and visitors and protect them for physical or verbal abuse.”

A spokesperson from the RUH said: “We take the safety of our staff, patients and visitors extremely seriously.

"Our on-site security team is available 24/7 and we work closely with the police when this is necessary.

"We also have a violence prevention and reduction policy in place to protect staff from incidents of conflict, aggression, violence and abuse. All staff are empowered to give verbal warnings to patients and visitors and have access to training to give them confidence in managing such situations.”
