Swindon Town have announced that defender Joel McGregor has signed a new contract that will run until 2027.

McGregor, who signed his first professional contract last year, has impressed the supporters and, importantly, Ian Holloway with his performances and was offered a new contract recently to reflect those outings.

The 19-year-old, Bristol-born right-back had a fantastic first season in professional football with a number of key performances which saw him awarded Player of the Match on a number of occasions, as well as his first professional goal and league goal against Bristol Rovers in the Vertu Trophy and Cheltenham Town in the league, respectively.

As well as those performances, Joel has been a model professional off the pitch with a number of performances in the community, at the Junior Reds Room and recently with his talk to parents at our Academy Under-9s introduction evening.

Upon signing his new contract, Joel McGregor said: "I'm just buzzing to be honest, it is an absolute honour to continue to play for this club in the coming years and the support has been nothing short of magnificent, I'm really excited to continue my journey and just looking forward to next season."

The manager, Ian Holloway, has had a huge effect on all the players and the energy around the club this year. Everyone is really positive about the future, and getting the chance to learn under him for the next few years played a big part in me signing my contract extension at the club."

"The fans are a massive part of Swindon and always will be. For me, I always try to play to the best of my ability and work as hard as I can because that’s why the fans deserve to see, anything less isn’t the standard for Swindon. We all know that, next year, we look to give them something they can cheer about."
