Tenants in Swindon living in council-owned housing are reporting increased satisfaction with services as Swindon Borough Council continues on its housing improvement journey.

Councillors are scheduled to review the latest progress this Wednesday, 1st July, when Cabinet members will consider a report detailing advances in housing services.

This follows the latest Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSM) survey, which shows notable improvements across all measures compared to the previous year.

Overall tenant satisfaction has risen from 54 per cent to 67 per cent, with the average satisfaction score increasing by 12 per cent to 63 per cent.

The satisfaction improvement aligns with Swindon Borough Council's Housing Improvement Plan, formed in response to findings from the Regulator of Social Housing’s inspection in May 2025.

Key investments include a ÂŁ250 million Housing Asset Management Strategy and a ÂŁ30 million energy-efficiency programme aimed at enhancing the quality and sustainability of council housing.

Recently concluded tenant engagement events provided opportunities for residents to interact with officers and senior leaders, contributing direct feedback on housing services.

Further engagement events are planned, supported by new tenant-led groups granting residents a greater say in service shaping and scrutiny.

Councillor Matty Courtliff, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, expressed encouragement over tenant feedback but acknowledged ongoing efforts required to elevate housing standards further.

“It’s encouraging that tenants are telling us things are improving, and I’m determined that we get back to basics in the way we deliver for them," Courtliff said.

The Council remains committed to continuous service improvement, investing in housing, and collaborating with tenants to deliver the quality they deserve.
