Swindon shop invites people to write cards to help combat loneliness
The cards will be delivered to local hospitals, care homes and hospices
A shop in Swindon is inviting people to write cards to help those struggling with loneliness.
The Highworth Emporium, in Swindon, has launched a card writing station as part of 'Thinking of you' week.
People can come into the shop and write a card for free.
The cards will then be delivered to hospitals, care homes, and hospices with the help of local scouts groups and handed out to those who may be in need of a boost.
The shop is aiming to send out or deliver at least a thousand by the end of this week and hope it will help those struggling with loneliness.
Aga Marsden is the shop's owner: "It's important to remember that a simple greeting card can make such a difference and its such a powerful tool.
"Its a very personal gift and it brings just as much joy to the person writing it as it does to the receiver."
Ms Marsden added that the reaction from those who have received the cards has been very emotional: "There are smiles but there are tears as well.
"We have been delivering cards ourselves so I've seen myself how powerful and how emotional greeting cards are."
