Two people have admitted to charges following a violent robbery in Swindon.

Matthew Brown, 38, from Ermin Street, and Laura Taylor, 36, from Affleck Close, Toothill, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on 21st April.

Brown pleaded guilty to robbery, affray, and possession of an offensive weapon, while Taylor admitted to charges of affray.

The trial was initially scheduled to proceed, but both entered their pleas on the first day.

The robbery took place on 1st May 2024 in Stratton St Margaret.

Taylor enticed the victim, a man in his 40s, out of a residence.

He was then threatened by Brown, who held a knife to his throat while demanding money.

The theft extended into a communal area of a nearby block of flats, with Brown maintaining the knife threat until the victim handed over cash.

Detective Constable James Pugh commented on the case, describing it as a ‘targeted attack on a man who was known to the pair.’

He mentioned that despite the victim being assaulted and threatened with a knife, he escaped with only minor injuries.

"This level of violence is not welcome in our communities, and we will continue to target those intent on causing fear amongst others," Pugh said.

Brown and Taylor are due to be sentenced on 9th July.
