Swindon man banned from driving for three years after drug-driving offence
Driver disqualified after testing positive for cannabis
A man from Swindon has been banned from driving for three years after admitting to drug-driving.
David Popkiss, 41, was stopped by police in Church Ward Avenue, Swindon, shortly after midnight on 21st June.
Traffic officers found Popkiss was over the drug limit, testing positive for cannabis during a roadside drug wipe.
He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and later appeared before Swindon Magistrates on 1st July.
The court disqualified him from driving for three years, ordered him to complete 60 hours of unpaid work, and pay a ÂŁ114 surcharge.
James Salmond, a roads policing officer, commented on the situation: “Popkiss was travelling with two teenagers and a child in his car while his driving was impaired by having drugs in his system.
"This is completely unacceptable and places his passengers, himself and other members of the public at risk.”
