The Mini, hailed as a "global success" by BMW Group, has reached the 25th anniversary of its modern version's production.

The first new generation Mini emerged from the production line at BMW’s Oxford factory on 26th April 2001.

This marked "the start of a new chapter" for the iconic car, BMW Group said.

Over the past 25 years, nearly 4.7 million Minis have rolled out from Oxford, reaching over 100 countries worldwide.

BMW’s Swindon factory has played a pivotal role since early 2001, producing Mini body parts and contributing to the brand's international success.

Currently, there are more than 3,000 people working across both Oxford and Swindon facilities.

Markus Gruneisl, BMW Group’s UK manufacturing chief executive, commented: “This 25-year milestone is a proud moment for Mini and everyone involved in its production here in the UK."

He noted the importance of "exceptional craftsmanship" and innovation at the Oxford and Swindon plants which have been integral to Mini's global triumph.

Gruneisl added, "Above all, it is our people – their creativity, expertise and pride in what they do – that continue to make Mini so special."

The original Mini debuted in 1959, aiming to offer affordable motoring.

Its popularity surged, thanks to its compact size and distinctive design, featuring in films like The Italian Job and attracting pop stars and fashion icons.
