Swindon Education Summit fosters collaboration to improve student outcomes
Leaders work towards unified system to support local schools
Swindon Borough Council hosted an Education Summit at the Steam Museum of the Great Western Railway, bringing together school leaders, academy trusts, and education partners to address challenges and opportunities in the local education sector.
The summit aimed to work as “one system, one purpose” to enhance educational outcomes for children in Swindon.
Attendees engaged in constructive discussions addressing issues such as attendance, inclusion, and pressures related to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), while exploring the benefits of greater collaboration.
A significant highlight was the introduction of the proposed Swindon Education Partnership, with leaders contributing to the development of its practical applications and identifying areas where collective effort can make substantial impacts.
Councillor Kate Tomlinson, the Council's new Cabinet Member for Children and Education, emphasized the Council's commitment to creating a more integrated education system that supports schools, families, and children in a timely and effective manner.
Tomlinson articulated the Council’s goals of ensuring every young person in Swindon has the opportunity to succeed academically.
The successful summit marks the starting point for ongoing efforts towards translating shared ambitions into actionable strategies that benefit the local education system.
The Council expressed gratitude to participants for their involvement and the positive discussions held during the event.
