A disqualified driver caught behind the wheel in Swindon has been given another driving ban and fines after appearing in court.

Selvaraj Amuthanathan, 42, of Chickerell Road, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance at Swindon Magistrates Court on 30th December.

Amuthanathan was stopped by roads policing officers on patrol in Swindon at approximately 9am on 29th December. The officers spotted a Vauxhall Astra, which they believed was being driven by a disqualified driver.

He was arrested at the scene. In court, Amuthanathan received a three-month driving disqualification, a fine of £276, £85 Crown Prosecution Service costs, and a £110 surcharge.

Acting Sergeant Luke Hobbs said: “It’s disappointing that Amuthanathan did not take his initial driving disqualification seriously.

"We do all we can to target individuals like him, who show little to no respect for the roads and road users and we will continue to target those who pose a risk to drivers and pedestrians.”
