Swindon business closed after sale of illicit tobacco and vapes
Police said: "If you have any concerns regarding suspected counterfeit goods, please tell us so we can use all relevant powers to take the most appropriate action.”
Police have secured another closure order for a business in Swindon after ongoing concerns around the sale of illicit tobacco and vapes.
The Lavy on Commercial Road was closed in March for three months – the maximum initial period allowed for by law – after officers seized counterfeit goods and cigarettes, along with cash.
Since the closure order expired, police have again been receiving information regarding the illicit trading of illegal goods.
As a result, officers attended Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Friday (21 August 2026), where another three-month closure order for the business was secured.
PC Brown, based in the Swindon Central South NPT, said:
“As we repeatedly say, the sale of illegal vapes and tobacco harms legitimate businesses and is coordinated by organised crime groups to create funds and launder money.
“Not only that but it is a health risk due to the lack of quality controls on the products being sold. You simply don’t know what is in them.
“We will continue to patrol the area and ensure the order is being adhered to.
“If you have any concerns regarding suspected counterfeit goods, please tell us so we can use all relevant powers to take the most appropriate action.”
