Swindon bus station redevelopment underway with future entertainment venue planned
The development includes residential options and plans for a new entertainment venue
Work to redevelop Swindon’s outdated bus station is moving quickly, with changes being made to improve the area’s infrastructure. Councillor Jim Robbins has shared updates, confirming visible progress near Fleming Way, which has already seen positive feedback since changes were introduced.
The bus station, which had been described as long overdue for replacement, is set to be completely transformed within the next week or so. While the immediate focus remains on completing this initial phase, ambitious future plans for the location and surrounding areas have also been revealed.
Councillor Robbins has announced upcoming development opportunities for Swindon, highlighting the release of an investment prospectus for land plots within the Kim fields area this week. Already home to the Zurich building, the site could see additional office blocks constructed alongside residential housing opportunities.
Planning permission has been granted for a significant area marked for housing development, and officials are confident it will attract considerable interest from potential investors.
A key part of the regeneration includes looking beyond the bus station site to create a new entertainment venue for Swindon. The current venue, the Wyvern Theatre, is seen as insufficient for a town the size of Swindon and is nearing the end of its functionality.
Councillor Robbins outlined hopes for a much larger venue that would be able to host bigger touring shows, enhancing Swindon’s cultural offerings. Efforts are underway to secure the necessary funding, with announcements expected as soon as the budgeting process is complete.
