Uncertainty surrounds the redevelopment plans for Swindon's Abbey Stadium as Gaming International, the company owning the land, enters receivership.

Abbey Stadium, which last hosted a greyhound race in December 2025, was poised for redevelopment with proposals from Legal & General Affordable Housing and Gaming International.

One plan suggested demolishing the stadium to make way for 130 houses, while another proposed utilizing recent buildings for community leisure facilities.

The March 2026 rejection of these plans stemmed from insufficient parking provisions, lack of guarantees for community facilities, and the 'irrevocable' loss of a stadium.

Concerns intensified after the death of Gaming International Chairman Clarke Osborne and subsequent receivership status of the company.

Receivership entails a third party managing assets, often during financial distress, to recover creditor value.

Swindon councillors have voiced apprehensions over the site's future amidst heightened challenges.

Cllr Kate Tomlinson underscored the importance of preserving the site's leisure and sporting use and expressed commitment to maintaining adjacent estates during receivership.

Cllr Jake Chandler noted potential varied uses of the site post-receivership, advocating leisure retention alongside other mixed uses.

Savills directors Matthew Nagle and Kevin March have been appointed by Ashen Capital Ltd, the site's senior secured creditor, to oversee Abbey Stadium's land.

Nagle reaffirmed efforts to assess viable options, collaborating with local stakeholders.

Savills acknowledges the site's significance and seeks deliberate, informed decision-making for its future.

Meanwhile, Savills has ensured routine maintenance at Richardson Road Park, with bins having been emptied on 6th October and scheduled for weekly servicing.
