A drink driver has been charged - after being caught by police travelling at nearly 100 miles an hour on the M4, early on New Year's Day.

Police say the 34 year old failed a breathalyser test.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: "A drink driver who was caught speeding along the motorway on New Year's Day has been charged.

"We recorded a Volkswagen Polo travelling at a speed of 96 miles per hour on the M4 just after 2am on January 1.

"The car was stopped and the driver, Nerijus Kavaliunas, 34, was breath tested at the scene.

"Kavaliunas, of Borodin Close, Basingstoke, failed this test and was recorded having 170 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath. This is more than four times the 35ug legal limit for driving.

"We seized his vehicle and transported his two passengers to Gablecross Police Station.

"In custody, Kavaliunas blew 161ug and was consequently charged with drink driving and speeding.

"He was remanded in custody and will appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court today (02/01)."
