Swindon shoplifter jailed and banned from Co-Op stores for shoplifting
Court issues Criminal Behaviour Order in response to retail crime
Jake Morrish, a 31-year-old man of no fixed address in Swindon, has been banned from entering any Co-Op store in the borough after pleading guilty to a series of thefts.
Morrish appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on 9th July and admitted to 14 counts of theft from shops, stealing two bikes, and failing to appear in court.
He received a sentence of six months and two weeks in jail, along with an order to pay compensation to the owners of the stolen bikes.
Morrish was also given a Criminal Behaviour Order lasting two years, prohibiting him from accessing Co-Op stores in Swindon.
PC Andrew Deller stated, "Thanks to an investigation by officers on Op Stabilise – which tackles prolific retail crime – Morrish has been given a custodial sentence and is now subject to a CBO. I hope this sends a strong message to our retailers that this type of prolific offending is taken seriously by the force, and by our courts."
PC Deller emphasised the impact of retail crime, noting that shop workers deserve a safe environment, and pledged continued collaboration with retailers to combat persistent offenders.
