Safety measures at Swindon's Mouldon Hill Country Park have been successfully enhanced following the deaths of three dogs last year.

Councillors Leanne Stevenson and Vinay Manro have overseen the installation of new culvert guards, fencing, and warning signage to improve water safety at the location.

The incidents, which led to the deaths of the pets named Rae, Peggy, and Meg, underscored the need for better protection against storm drains in the park.

These changes aim to prevent further tragedies and raise awareness about water depth and the potential for fast currents, especially during heavy rainfall.

On the River Ray side of the culvert, a repaired non-return valve with an additional safety guard bolsters security for park visitors.

Councillors Stevenson and Manro praised the completion of these works: "Success at Mouldon Hill Lake.

"Water safety improvement works are now complete, with new, more substantial culvert guards and fencing installed at the lake. Additional warning signage will also be added, including information on water depth and the potential for fast currents, particularly after heavy rain.

"On the River Ray side of the culvert, the non-return valve has been repaired and a new safety guard installed.

"This is a positive outcome and a good example of practical action following concerns raised about water safety around the lake and nearby watercourses."
