Proposed site for new recycling centre in Royal Wootton Bassett announced
Wiltshire Council moves forward with feasibility study
Wiltshire Council has identified a preferred location for a new Household Recycling Centre (HRC) near Royal Wootton Bassett, providing updates on the search for suitable sites in the north of the county.
Following public engagement and officer assessments earlier this year, the site south of the existing Salt Department on Marlborough Road has been selected for detailed feasibility evaluation.
This location, distinct from the Old Council Depot site, is favoured due to its council ownership, sufficient size for development, accessibility, and suitability to serve residents sourcing from Lower Compton and Purton HRCs.
Out of 21 sites assessed — including council-owned land and suggestions from local residents — this site emerged as the only viable option to proceed further.
The Council has considered factors like operational needs, ecological constraints, and strategic planning conditions in their appraisal process.
Next steps involve an extensive feasibility study, conducting ecological and environmental surveys, traffic assessments, and securing necessary environmental and waste permits.
A planning application for the proposed site will eventually be submitted, ensuring the chosen site meets all requirements for development.
The initiative aims to provide more convenient recycling options for regional residents, enhancing waste management accessibility within Royal Wootton Bassett.
