A cat being cared for at Purton Cattery in Swindon has had to have a leg amputated after it was discovered he'd been shot with air rifle.

X-Rays showed a pellet in Simba's leg, meaning surgeons at Drove Vets had no choice but to remove it.

He was taken to the practice by his previous owner who was unable to afford the £1600 bill, so he's now being looked after by Purton Cattery.

They've issued a statement to update after his surgery which took place on Friday, "He’s currently on strong pain relief and antibiotics, and is being kept on strict crate rest with only short, gentle walks while he recovers. It’s going to be a long road ahead, but he’s already showing just how strong and resilient he is."

"We also want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated to our Drove Vets account so far. Your kindness and support have truly made a difference and helped us give Simba the care he needed-quite literally saving his life."
