A man, described by police as a 'prolific' shoplifter, has been sentenced for 19 offences of theft from a number of shops.

Steven Lloyd, 48, of no fixed abode was sentenced to 36 weeks, suspended for 18 months at Swindon Magistrates Court on August 13 after pleading guilty to the offences.

Between February and July 2025 Lloyd has targeted shops in the North Swindon area taking multiple items such as pet food, bathroom products and alcohol.

Lloyd was also ordered to participate in an accredited programme for 26 days, and to carry out up to 10 days of rehabilitation activity.

PC Matthew Richter said, "Lloyd is a prolific criminal with numerous theft convictions.

“Offenders like Lloyd can have a devastating effect on businesses and the wider communities which is why swift and effective action is essential.

“Shoplifting is a priority for the Swindon's neighbourhood teams and we continue to urge everyone to report any incident they see to us so that action like this can be taken.”
