Swindon police use dispersal order to tackle antisocial behaviour
Police enforcement aims to make Swindon town centre safer
Swindon police implemented a section 35 dispersal order over the weekend to address antisocial behaviour in the town centre.
Officers, with support from Special Constables, enforced the order to make the area safer.
Around 40 youths were prevented from gathering at known antisocial behaviour hotspots, while 28 were dispersed from the town centre.
Two e-bikes and three e-scooters were seized.
Two arrests were made for possession of an offensive weapon.
In addition, 15 educational maps and warning leaflets were issued.
Class B drugs were recovered following a drone-assisted operation.
Swindon Central South Inspector David Tippetts said: “This has been a productive policing weekend which has contributed to a reduction in antisocial behaviour and helped maintain a positive atmosphere within the town centre and wider night time economy.
“We’re aware of the significant impact and frustration that ASB has in the town centre for local businesses, shoppers and residents alike and we will continue to take targeted action like this to ensure people can enjoy the town centre without fear of intimidation or disorder.
“I’d also like to thank our volunteer Special Constabulary for their excellent support over the weekend which enabled this targeted activity to be carried out.”
Swindon police plan to continue using dispersal orders in the coming days and weeks to tackle antisocial behaviour.
