Police crackdown amid 'crime series' across Wiltshire
Officers have shared the details on their Facebook pages - as investigations continue
Wiltshire Police have issued an update amid what's being described as a 'crime series' across the county.
It's after a reported number of van break-ins, with investigators continuing to identify offenders who have drilled holes in the doors of the vehicles, and stealing high value tools.
In their statement, officers in Trowbridge said: "We are experiencing a crime series in Wiltshire with a number of van break ins. Investigations are continuing to identify offenders who have drilled holes in the doors of the vehicles, and stealing high value tools.
"In our area we have seen break ins in Trowbridge, Melksham and Bradford on Avon.
"We are urging van owners to consider the below steps to reduce the likelihood of them being victims of crime:
- Remove all high value tools overnight and consider using a 'no tools left in this vehicle overnight' sign
- Do not leave tools in show if you are leaving your van unattended
- Ensure vehicle alarms are working
- Park your van in a secure location or in a location covered by CCTV
- Considering marking your tools for identification purposes- we can offer DNA selecta kits for property marking. Company branded tools are also less appealing to thieves
- Store serial numbers of high value tools and use signage to say that tools have been marked and recorded
- If you see anybody acting suspiciously around vehicles- report by calling 999
"DNA selecta is an invisible ink you can mark your property with containing individual coding.
"The ink shows up under lighting and we can identify the code to your registration.
