Households in the SN4, SN5 and SN6 postcode areas were affected by the blackout, which began on Sunday evening.

The outage was described as a “high voltage incident”, meaning a fault on the power network impacted a wide area.

According to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), 976 customers were initially left without power. Engineers were sent to investigate and restore supplies as quickly as possible.

Power was progressively brought back on for most affected homes, with SSEN apologising for the disruption and thanking residents for their patience while work continued.

High voltage faults typically affect larger sections of the network than localised issues, which is why such a large number of properties were impacted at once.

Anyone still experiencing problems with their electricity supply is advised to contact their power network operator using the number on their bill or meter box, or by checking the national power cut helpline online.
