A man who tried to run from Wiltshire Police Dog Stan after leading officers on a dangerous pursuit has been jailed.

Daniel Kibblewhite, 31, of Castle View, Westbury, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court today after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and racially aggravated public order.

He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.

On July 10, officers from Wiltshire’s Specialist Operations received excellent intelligence from the County Local Policing Tasking Team concerning a vehicle which Kibblewhite, who was outstanding for offences related to a separate investigation, was thought to be travelling in.

At around 10.15am, Kibblewhite drove past the officers on Bradford Road, Bathampton, in the direction of Bradford on Avon.

He was followed through Sally in the Woods, and was then seen to perform multiple dangerous overtakes, including on blind bends into oncoming traffic, and reached speeds of more than 100mph.

He was momentarily lost to sight, when officers spotted a huge dust cloud in a roadside farm.

Driving into the complex, workers informed the officers that the suspect vehicle had driven round the back of a large warehouse.

Kibblewhite was then sighted walking away from his vehicle, before running on sight of the police vehicle.

He was located in an empty horsebox by Police Dog Stan, after which Kibblewhite attempted to flee. He was quickly pursued and detained by Stan, and subsequently arrested. He was further arrested after racially abusing one of our officers. He was then charged and remanded into custody.

PC Layton, based in the Volume Crime Team, said: “Kibblewhite’s driving was incredibly reckless and dangerous, putting numerous lives at risk as he attempted to escape justice.

“There can never be any justification for driving in this manner – a collision at that speed could very easily be fatal.

“After he fled his vehicle he tried to hide – but he was no match for Police Dog Stan.”
