Firefighters tackle hay bale blaze at Hackpen Hill near Swindon

Public urged to avoid area as crews work to prevent spread

Firefighters from Westlea, Swindon, and Marlborough are currently battling a fire involving approximately 250 hay bales at Hackpen Hill near Swindon.

The incident was reported at 9:32am on 1st August, prompting swift action to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Upon arrival, crews used hose reels to extinguish the flames while farm machinery was employed to create a fire break.

Authorities have advised walkers and cyclists to avoid the area as efforts to control the blaze continue.

Wiltshire Police have been asked to assist at the scene.

As of the 1:20pm update, firefighters remain on site, and the public is still urged to steer clear.
