Electricity has been restored to over 3,000 homes in Chippenham following a fire involving an electrical transformer at Gloucester Close on the evening of 6th January.

Fire crews were called at 6.15pm, with two teams from Chippenham and Corsham attending the scene. They worked to keep the area safe and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze once engineers were able to isolate the power supply.

The fire was confirmed as extinguished by 7.26pm.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) engineers repaired the damaged equipment and reconnected homes affected by the power outage.

An SSEN spokesperson said: “We have reconnected around 3,500 customers in the Chippenham area following a power cut caused by damage to our equipment. We’re now investigating the cause of this and would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding yesterday evening.”

According to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, residents were initially informed that power would return in approximately two hours.
