A 38-year-old man from Calne has been jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of abusing a child over a number of years.

Adam Cockram was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Thursday, having been found guilty by jury at a trial in July of seven counts of adult sexual activity against a female child, a single count of inciting sexual activity, taking an indecent photograph and possession of a prohibited image.

He must also abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention order for 20 years, be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is barred from working with children.

The court further imposed a lifetime restraining order to prevent him from contacting his victim or attending their address.

DC Julie Lewis said: “Cockram inflicted his abuse over a number of years to satisfy his own desires, with complete disregard to the impact this would have on his victim. It is thanks to the bravery of the survivor of this abuse that he has had to face the consequences of his crimes.

"I hope this sentence sends a powerful message to other abuse survivors that you do not have to suffer in silence. Please be assured that our team of specially trained officers will treat you with sensitivity and respect. You will be listened to and we will do everything we can to bring such offenders to justice.”
