Wiltshire Council’s Eastern Area Planning Committee will consider an application by Isabella Wookey, who wants to keep the burgundy and pink stripes on the front of her Grade II listed boutique, Willow & Wolfe, at 95 High Street in Marlborough.

A council planning officer has recommended refusal, saying the colourful stripes are not traditional for the area and could harm the historic character of the eighteenth-century building. The case comes after enforcement action, as the paintwork was changed without listed building consent.

Supporters, including Marlborough Town Council, say the stripes add character and fun to the High Street. The final decision will rest with councillors, who have previously allowed a painted St George’s Cross to remain on a historic building in Pewsey despite similar concerns.
