Yellow heat health warning as Sussex temperatures set to soar
Some parts could reach 28 degrees
A yellow heat health alert's coming into place across the South East - including in Sussex.
It's been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) who say high temperatures over the coming days may put vulnerable people at increased risk.
It follows Met Office predictions that temperatures could peak at 28 degrees in parts of the county by Monday - including in Brighton, Uckfield, Crawley and Hastings.
The UKHSA is warning the increased temperatures could lead to a rise in water‑related incidents, including cold‑water shock and drowning.
The warning remains in place from 3pm today (17th June) until 8pm on Monday the 22nd of June.
Speaking previously about the impacts of a yellow heat warning, Dr James Ramsay, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Sussex, said:
"Very warm weather can be dangerous, especially for older people, young children, and those with existing health conditions.
"We’re asking everyone to take a few simple but important steps to keep themselves and others safe.
“Checking-in on neighbours, staying hydrated, and keeping homes cool can make a real difference. The effects of extreme heat are preventable if the right precautions are taken."
