A Worthing doctor has teamed up with an ex-Beano cartoonist to teach more children about how their bodies work.

Respiratory consultant Numbere K. Numbere has published an educational comic book designed to make learning about the workings of the lungs more accessible.

Dr Numbere contributed to the ‘Adventures of the Human Body’ series, which uses cartoon characters to portray body parts navigating everyday situations.

Numbere said: “I’m an avid comic book fan so this concept of using the comic strip medium to bring scientific concepts to life was right up my alley.

“I honestly could not think of any more important goals in life than encouraging and inspiring children to take an interest in the human body and in science as a wider whole.

"This is my small part in that endeavour and I consider myself blessed to have been afforded that opportunity.”

Using the character 'Lungy', the story teaches children how lungs support everyday activities such as talking, eating and singing.

Numbere added: “I had never done anything like this before, well not since was I was 12 drawing stick men comics for the excited amusement of my younger siblings.

“It was a lot of hard work and took nearly two years but it has been a wonderfully rewarding experience.”
