Worthing Borough Council says its working on a plan to preserve its seafront - just months after storm damage forced its pier to temporarily close.

Its looking to launch the Worthing Seafront 2050 project to protect the pier, lido and its beaches from climate change.

Councillors say it'll loop in local businesses, residents and seafront enthusiasts to work on ideas on how to keep the beach in tact for future generations.

Cabinet Lead for Regeneration Rita Garner says it's hoping to "get people really inspired and involved":

"We want to bring people's skills, all the things that are important to them, because this is really about what the identity of Worthing is."

She adds they're work is already beginning internally to get the ball rolling.

When asked whether devolution could have an impact on the plans going ahead, Garner responded:

"I think that the seafront in Worthing will always be important, no matter what unitary we're a part of.

"It's all the more reason to actually get these plans going, so we've got something that can be handed on in a new organisation - not something that is only started to be thought about.

"So I think it's more the reason to get started on this now."
