The women's Rugby World Cup trophy is visiting Hove today as the city's mission to become the UK capital for women and girls in sport continues.

It's as the city unveils a huge exhibition celebrating local women in rugby.

Images of players at Hove Rugby Club and the University of Brighton are being showcased at the Seafront Gallery in hopes to capture the "power and grace" involved in the women's game.

Councillor Bella Sankey, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, said:

“This exhibition celebrates the energy, strength and courage of the women who play rugby, who have discovered rugby, and who have found joy and togetherness in the sport.

“But it isn’t just about those who already play. "It is about inspiring others to pick up and a ball and join them."

The exhibition comes as recent data finds more than 2600 women and girls have taken part in over 70 local sessions since last year's world cup - in which the city hosted two games.
